Beautification Update 6/7/2022

Our summer color is in the planter boxes and the Crape Myrtles are coming in nicely. The yuccas on Mission Ridge are looking great. They’ve had more than a year head start over Brougham.

We had a long wait on sourcing some plants to replace the purple fountain grass which didn’t survive the back to back freezes this past winter. Even though they are supposed to handle it, but didn’t. 😞 We ended up going with a hybrid Nepeta which should be more tolerant.

We've seen a lot of changes over the years with probably the biggest one being the recently completed planter boxes and medians. I would like to thank Mark Klapper and Brian Hix, our previous Beautification leaders, for their service in the position and for the great job they have done.

We accomplished a lot during 2021. We removed the trees in the medians at Brougham and Mission Ridge as a part of the refurb. I know it is sad to lose the bigger trees, but the Elms at Brougham are infested with Borers and are also really too large of a tree for a median that narrow. The limbs on the trees at Mission Ridge hung too low per city ordinance, not to mention the fact that the high level of traffic through that intersection has taken its toll with large limbs being knocked off the trees by oversized delivery and construction trucks. One tree had been run into head on by a vehicle that hopped the curb. That accident (which was never reported) also destroyed part of the electrical and irrigation installed in the median.
